Via Imports: The boutique specialist

26 May 2021

In March last year, Via Imports exhibited for the first time at the Singapore International Furniture Fair and won orders from companies in the US and Britain.

“It was a great result and has been very good for us,” says Via’s founder Geoff Shiell, who runs the Bendigo-based company with his son Carl.

The Singapore coup was not surprising. Over the past 30 years, Via has established itself internationally as a specialist in quality dining, occasional and entertainment furniture, and decorator items. It has also solidly earned its reputation as a customer-friendly “boutique” firm.

“We mainly supply the smaller retail chains and stand alone stores, and they can choose a variety of styles for delivery in a single container instead of having to purchase just one product line,” says Geoff.

“Skilled craftspeople supply some of our pieces, but we design and make most of our furniture. We have our own plant in Indonesia, so we’re able to control the whole process from saw mill to finished product.”

Sustainable and exotic are the operative words for the enticements Via will launch at Furnitex. “They include our Khartoum collection, a recycled look in fruitwood and some new finishes that we’re really excited about,” says Geoff Shiell.
